HostMyCalls includes support for HD Voice
What is HD Voice?
HD Voice is short for high-definition voice and is also called wideband audio. No matter which term you use, it means you are
using wideband technology to provide a richer clarity and improved audio experience in your VoIP communications. The technology relies on a wideband codec that doubles the sampling rate and more than doubles the width of the sound spectrum being reproduced. The difference is stunning. HD Voice is now a part of the HostMyCalls Hosted PBX Service.
Narrowband audio is the standard audio for telephone calls in the United States and most of the world. It is used by all calls over business phone lines, home phone lines and mobile phones and is based on technology that is more than 100 years old. Narrowband transmits only one-fourth of the human speech audio spectrum putting our brains to work filling in the rest. That is why we can be tired after a long phone conversation, have some difficulty recognizing a caller’s voice, misinterpret letters and sounds and find it difficult to drive while using a mobile phone.
Remote radio broadcasts use the wideband codec that is the basis for the HD Voice. Have you heard the difference between a remote radio broadcast and a caller on a telephone? That is the distinct improvement of HD Voice!
The Importance of a High Fidelity Phone Call
VoIP communications is becoming the choice for the telephone technology we use. It is not only for our inter-office calls but network switched calls to other companies, remote personnel and customers. The added fidelity and range HD Voice gives, provides more clarity and less hearing fatigue. HD Voice Articles on this site as well as many on the Internet, often site some of these same benefits. Provided from Wikipedia we find, ‘some listener benefits cited of wideband audio compared to traditional (narrowband):
- Clearer overall sound quality
- Easier to recognize voices, distinguish confusing sounds and understand accented speakers
- Ease of deciphering words that have the close sounds of ‘s’ and ‘f’ and others, often indistinguishable over telephone lines.

- More attention can be given to the call content and less brain function to try hearing what people are saying; resulting in increased productivity and less fatigue on business calls
